| | *****Announcing the Conference of Texas Statisticians 2000***** | | The Conference of Texas Statisticians(COTS) was established at the annual | American Statistical Association meeting in Houston, Texas, in 1980. Tom | Bratcher, Bill Schucany and Jim Davenport organized the first Conference of | Texas Statisticians meeting, which was held in Waco in February, 1981. The | Conference has been held annually since that date and has been sponsored | jointly by the Texas Chapters of the American Statistical Association. The | conference was held at Trinity University in San Antonio in 1995. The | Conference of Texas Statisticians gives statisticians the opportunity for | social and intellectual exchange on a yearly basis. These meetings also | stimulate increased chapter membership as well as visibility of the | statistical profession in the State of Texas. | | COTS 2000 is being held at Sam Houston State University, Huntsville, Texas | on Friday, March 31 and Saturday, April 1. For more information including | the conference program and complete registration information visit | http://math.shsu.edu/cots.html or call conference chair Cecil Hallum at | 409-294-3706. | | | *****Traveling Course 2000 Update********* | | Unfortunately the San Antonio Chapter was not chosen to receive the course | titled "Generalized Linear Models: Theory, Applications and Extensions" by | Joseph Hilbe. This is a two-day course that lasts 11 hours. | | If attending a chapter showing of one of these courses or any other course | listed at the ASA website: http://www.amstat.org/education/coursevideo.html | is of interest to you please contact any of the chapter officers listed at | the end of this newsletter. We are interested in knowing what you want to | see. | | | *****Science Fair Winners!**************** | | The San Antonio Chapter sent 15 volunteer judges to the Alamo Regional | Science Fair to help select those senior division projects that showed | excellence in investigation and use of statistical methods.
