New Project: Battle Staff NCO Tasks




Under the Common Task project, the Army Research Institute and USASMA requested that IJOA, HumRRO, and Metrica personnel assist in identifying in identifying tasks performed by Battle Staff NCOs, and how such tasks will differ using digital technologies versus traditional jobs.

 


A kickoff meeting was held at USASMA, Ft. Bliss on 4 - 5 March 1998, to define the tasks and agree on general strategies for approaching the problem. The timeline for this project are limited, since some progress needs to be shown before August, although any formal report can be deferred until October or November.

Mr. Steve Chase is project officer at USASMA, since he is charged with revising the current analogue Battle Staff NCO course.

IJOA, HumRRO, and Metrica staff personnel proposed for work on this project attended a one-day orientation course on Digital Command Post operations at Ft. Hood, TX on 7 April 1998.

A "Key Players" meeting to provide general information on previous digital studies was held at IJOA in San Antonio on 15 - 16 April 1998.  Participants (see photo page) briefed on their prior work relevant to this area; USASMA staff briefed on project objectives, and IJOA staff briefed on study strategies and issues.

Trips to interview Battle Staff NCO subject-matter experts at Ft. Hood, TX were made in May and June. A final validation trip in anticipated in late July.

Data Collection completed, final report drafted, and submitted to HQ ARI for approval on November 9, 1998.
